Ok, so let me start just by telling you about the type of skin I have. I used to have oily, acne prone skin and then I took Accutane for about eight months. After the Accutane I now have dry skin, with barely any breakouts (only hormonal). However, I do have a lot of pigmentation and acne scars. I have been perfecting my skin routine for many years now, and have tried dozens of products, and I finally feel like I finally have skincare holy grails. So, lets get to it!
For my morning cleanser I use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser. It is a very gentle (but effective) cleanser that is perfect at getting rid of anything that has built up on your skin while you were sleeping. You can buy this at almost any store. I usually buy mine from Target or Kroger and it costs around $12 dollars.
First Aid Beauty (FAB) has an amazing cleanser that I use every night. It is paraben, sulfate and Phthalate free. It is rich to the touch and lathers nicely, but isn’t rough on your skin. This cleanser is very gentle and is suitable for sensitive skin. I also use this with my clarisonic about three times a week for a deeper clean. You can buy this from a number of places, such as Sephora and Ulta, and will cost you about $20 dollars.
I use a toner after both my morning and evening cleanser. The toner I use is from Pixi and is called Glow Tonic. It is supposed to help tone, firm and tighten the skin and is a gentle exfoliator. I have not been using this product for very long, but I have already noticed a difference in the pigmentation on my face. I just apply a small amount to a cotton ball and wipe it all over my face and also drag the remaining amount down my neck. I bought this from Target and it cost me about $15 dollars.
In the morning I use the CeraVe moisturizing cream for dry skin. This is a light moisturizer which is perfect for wear during the day. It does not have sunscreen in it (which sucks), so I usually put the FAB face sunscreen under this moisturizer in the mornings. This also wears very nicely under makeup (let it sink in for about 20 minutes before you apply your foundation). Plus, this moisturizer contains hyaluronic acid which means your face will hold in more moisture throughout the day, keeping you more moisturized! I usually get this from either Target or Kroger and costs me about $13 dollars.
In the evenings I use the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Sleeping Cream. This product has been in my routine for three years now and I can’t imagine not using it. Moisturizing your face properly before you sleep at night is so important because your body repairs tissues while you sleep so you will soak up more moisture this way. You also wake up with amazingly soft and supple skin. I buy this from either Sephora or Ulta and costs me about $38 dollars.
I make sure to apply serum to my skin before my normal evening moisturizer about 2-3 times a week. The serum I have used for the past two years now is Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. This stuff is pretty pricey, but one of these bottles lasts me almost a full year. I just put a few drops onto my fingers and lightly push the product into my face and then down my neck. I get this from the Kiehl’s website (since there isn’t a store in the city I live in) and it costs me about $72 dollars.
