Show that special someone how much you love them with this delicious cake pop recipe. The easiest recipe to follow, and the perfect valentines day gift!
What you’ll need:
- Cake mix (box or from scratch is fine)
- Any ingredients your cake mix requires
- White melting chocolate
- Vanilla icing (I recommend fluffy icing)
- Sprinkles of your choosing
- 1 inch scooper
- Small heart cookie cutter
- One large mixing bowl
- One medium bowl
- Cake pop sticks (Bags also if you want to wrap them up)
- Cookie sheet and wax paper
The first thing you’ll want to do is bake your cake mix according to the directions. One box of cake mix will make around 40-50 cake pops so bake as many as you need. I made strawberry cake with these cake pops, but you can do whatever flavor you want!
Once the cake is done cooking let it cool completely before you proceed.
Once the cake is cooled you just break it up into crumbs into your large mixing bowl.
After the cake is broken up into small pieces you are going to add in the entire thing of icing. One thing of icing for each cake you bake.
Now the fun part! Get your hands in there (clean hands, preferably!) and mix the icing and cake together until they are completely combined.
Once the icing and cake is completely mixed you need to cover the bowl and either put it in the fridge for overnight, or you can stick it in the freezer for about 2 hours!
After awhile the mix will get stiffer, making it much easier to form the balls that we want!
Take your 1 inch scoop and begin to form the balls out of the cake mix. You will want to put them onto your cookie sheet that has wax paper on it.
Take some of the balls and flatten them out and make them into heart shapes with your cookie cutter. Make sure not to flatten them out too much or they will fall apart in the end!
After you have done the whole bowl, take the cookie sheet and stick it back into the freezer for about 30-45 minutes.
It is now time to melt some of the chocolate! You only need a couple chunks of the chocolate for this, melt according to the packaging. Next, you want to take the cake pop sticks and put about half an inch of the stick into the melted chocolate and then insert it into the cake pop balls. **Make sure not to insert the sticks all the way through the balls!
Wait for the chocolate to harden, they can either sit on the counter while this happens or you can stick them back into the fridge to make it quicker.
Once the chocolate is hardened it’s finally time to dip the “pops” into the rest of the melted chocolate!
**Tip: If you would like to add food coloring to the chocolate to make them a different color than white you need to add in some oil to the melted chocolate. The food coloring will make the chocolate too thick to coat the pops correctly. You want to make sure the chocolate is pretty thin and runny before you dip the cake pops into them.
I recommend adding a little bit of oil to the melted chocolate before you dip the pops into them or else they may fall off of the sticks from the weight of the chocolate.
You simply insert the pop into the melted chocolate just to the point where the cake meets the stick. You will twirl the pop and and gently tap it on the side of the bowl as you twirl.
Before the chocolate hardens completely you need to decorate them! I did three different designs. Some with a dark pink sprinkle, some with gold sprinkles and then for the heart shaped ones I used a very light crystallized sprinkle, that made it look almost frosted.
Once they were decorated I placed them in my cake pop stand (You can also use styrofoam) to let them completely harden! Yay you’re done!!
