  12. FAQ

The Miele CM6110 coffee system is a compact super-automatic machine that grinds beans, brews espresso and coffee, and froths milk at the touch of a button. Its strengths are Miele’s build quality, quiet operation, a one-touch milk system, and the ability to make two drinks at once. Its weaknesses are a high price for its feature set and limited control for people who want to fine-tune espresso. The black CM6110 has been around for years and is now harder to find new in some markets, where Miele’s CM6160 and CM6360 have taken its place.

If you see the CM6110 at a good discount, it remains a solid, low-effort machine for milk drinks. If you are paying full price, compare it with the newer models first.

Pros

  • One-touch lattes and cappuccinos with no barista skills needed
  • Makes two milk drinks at once
  • Narrow footprint for a super-automatic
  • Removable brew unit for easy rinsing
  • Quiet compared with many bean-to-cup machines
  • Good build quality and Miele’s reputation for reliability

Cons

  • Expensive for the features
  • Espresso is good but not as rich as a well-dialed manual machine
  • Milk system needs regular cleaning
  • Small drip tray and grounds container need frequent emptying
  • Being phased out in favor of newer models in some regions

Design and size

The CM6110 is one of the slimmer super-automatics, at roughly 25 cm (10 in) wide. That makes it easy to fit on a busy counter or between appliances. The front has a simple display with sensor controls, and the height-adjustable central spout fits small espresso cups and taller latte glasses.

The water tank and bean container are on the sides and top. The tank holds about 1.8 liters, enough for a day or two of drinks for most households. The bean hopper holds about 300 g.

How it works

Like other super-automatic machines, the CM6110 does everything inside the machine:

  1. Grinds a set dose of beans.
  2. Compresses the grounds in the brew unit.
  3. Pre-wets and brews the coffee at pressure.
  4. Drops the spent puck into an internal container.
  5. Draws milk through a tube, heats it and froths it, then dispenses it through the same spout.

You choose the drink, and it is ready in about a minute. You can adjust coffee strength, volume, temperature and grind fineness. Miele’s AromaticSystem gives the brew chamber room to expand, which the company says helps the coffee release more aroma.

Personalization and handy extras

  • User profiles: save preferences for each drink in up to four user profiles, so everyone in the house gets their usual strength and size.
  • Ground coffee chute: brew a single cup from pre-ground coffee, useful for decaf, without changing the beans in the hopper.
  • Automatic milk line rinse: the milk lines rinse when you switch the machine off, which reduces daily cleaning.
  • Hot water: dispense hot water for tea or to preheat cups.
  • Adjustable settings: coffee quantity, strength, temperature and pre-brewing can be changed through the menu.

Coffee and espresso quality

Super-automatics trade some flavor for convenience. The CM6110 makes a pleasant, balanced espresso and a smooth café crème-style coffee, with medium-bodied crema. It will not match the intensity and texture of a shot from a well-tuned semi-automatic machine with a separate grinder, but it is consistent cup after cup.

For the best results:

  • Use fresh medium or medium-dark beans. Very oily dark roasts can clog super-automatic grinders.
  • Set the grinder a little finer than the default, a step at a time, while beans are grinding.
  • Use the strongest strength setting and a smaller volume for espresso.
  • Preheat cups with the hot water function.

Milk frothing

The milk system is the CM6110’s main draw. Put the milk tube in a carton or Miele’s milk container, choose a cappuccino or latte macchiato, and the machine froths and dispenses it automatically. The foam is light and consistent, suitable for cappuccinos and lattes. It is not designed for latte art.

OneTouch for Two lets you make two cappuccinos or lattes side by side, which is useful for couples in the morning.

Cleaning and maintenance

  • Milk system: rinse after each milk drink (the machine prompts this) and run the cleaning program with Miele’s milk cleaner regularly.
  • Brew unit: remove and rinse under warm water about once a week. No detergent.
  • Drip tray and grounds container: empty often; they fill quickly with daily use.
  • Descaling: follow the on-screen prompt using Miele descaling tablets. See our general guide on how to descale an espresso machine for why this matters.
  • Degreasing: run the brew unit degreasing program with tablets as prompted.

Buying a used or refurbished CM6110

Because the CM6110 is being replaced in some markets, you may find it used or refurbished. A few checks help:

  • Ask how many drinks it has made. Many super-automatics show a counter in the settings menu.
  • Check that the brew unit comes out easily and looks clean.
  • Ask whether it was descaled on schedule and with which water.
  • Make sure the milk tube and milk container are included and not cracked.
  • Prefer sellers who offer a warranty, especially for authorized refurbished units.

Replacement parts and tablets are widely available, which helps older Miele machines stay in service for years. Budget for a new water filter and a fresh set of cleaning tablets when you buy.

Miele CM6110 vs CM6160 vs CM6360

CM6110 CM6160 MilkPerfection CM6360 MilkPerfection
Milk frothing Automatic Automatic, more drink options Automatic, more drink options
Wi-Fi app control No Yes (Miele app) Yes (Miele app)
Drink options Core espresso and milk drinks About 18 specialties Similar to CM6160
Cup warmer No Yes Yes
Coffee pot function No Yes Yes

The newer MilkPerfection models add app control, more drinks, a cup warmer and a coffee pot function, at a higher price. If those extras matter to you, they are the better buy. If you just want great one-touch cappuccinos, a discounted CM6110 still does the core job well.

Super-automatic vs semi-automatic: what you give up

Buying a machine like the CM6110 is mainly a choice about convenience. Here is the trade-off in plain terms:

Super-automatic (CM6110) Semi-automatic with grinder
Effort per drink Press a button Grind, tamp, brew, steam
Learning curve Minimal Weeks of practice
Espresso intensity Good, milder Can be richer and more complex
Milk texture Consistent foam, no latte art Silky microfoam, latte art possible
Mess Very little Some grounds and milk cleanup
Cost of ownership Cleaning and descaling tablets Similar, plus possible grinder upgrades

If your household mostly drinks cappuccinos and lattes before work, the convenience usually wins. If you enjoy the craft, a semi-automatic will be more rewarding.

Who should buy the Miele CM6110?

  • Buy it if you want hands-free milk drinks, value a slim machine, and can find it at a good price.
  • Skip it if you enjoy making espresso by hand, want latte art, or prefer the latest features.

Not sure whether a super-automatic suits you? Compare it with a manual setup in our guides to the best espresso machines for beginners. If you mostly drink black coffee, a good pour over coffee maker may suit you better and costs far less. FAQ

Is the Miele CM6110 discontinued?

Availability depends on the region and color. In several markets, newer models like the CM6160 and CM6360 have replaced it, so the CM6110 may only be available from remaining stock or refurbished.

Can the Miele CM6110 make two cups at once?

Yes. OneTouch for Two dispenses two espressos, coffees or milk drinks at the same time through the dual spout.

Does the Miele CM6110 have a milk frother?

Yes. It froths milk automatically through a milk tube and the central spout.

Can you use pre-ground coffee in the CM6110?

Yes. The CM6110 has a ground coffee chute for single cups, which is handy for making one decaf without emptying the bean hopper. Use one level scoop of pre-ground coffee per cup.

What beans work best in the Miele CM6110?

Medium or medium-dark roasts with a dry surface work best. Very oily dark roasts can leave residue in the grinder and brew unit, and flavored beans can leave lasting aromas.

How often should you clean the brew unit?

Miele recommends rinsing the brew unit under warm water about once a week, without detergent, and running the degreasing program when prompted.
